CNNfn, MSNBC and CNBC, broadcast real-time financial markets information from MarketSite and provide activity and analysis of market conditions throughout the day. MarketSite is the venue for introducing Nasdaq IPO's and for senior executives of listed companies to signal the opening of the trading day on Nasdaq.
Corporate logos and brands tell consumers about their favorite products and/or services. And, they make it easier for investors to quickly identify stocks. So too, is the unique logo ticker, a signature of the Nasdaq stock market. It is a branding element seen in Nasdaq sales and marketing materials, on MarketSite the Tower in Times Square and nasdaq.com.

Work on MarketSite began in 1993 when Nasdaq engaged Ei to design a large format electronic display for the reception area in its New York headquarters. Nasdaq had no physical presence. The NYSE trading floor provided the only backdrop for the news media covering the financial industry. The original idea was to have four, large format video screens displaying the Nasdaq workstation represent the Nasdaq stock market.
However, it soon became apparent that the workstation was the "backroom" for what was becoming the fastest growing stock market in the world.
Here was the chance to eclipse the arcane workstation and create a true physical presence for The Nasdaq Stock Market. One that would be meaningful and accessible, to everyonethe news media, Nasdaq listed companies, market makers, institutional investors and eventually, the individual investor and the public.
Work began to define the content. Real-time market activities including stock prices and the way varied types of financial data looked and acted on screen were designed and choreographed. The objective was to accurately and dynamically inform viewers of market conditions throughout the trading day, including pre-market opening and closing activities. The four screens soon became eight, then 16, and finally, the 100 rear-projection video monitors that now occupy the space at ground level in the tower in Times Square.
A visual language unique to Nasdaq, was created to brand the content, site architecture and the structure and choreography of the information. The logo ticker became the cornerstone of the Nasdaq brand.
Today, MarketSite is the physical expression of The Nasdaq Stock Market with a global audience that includes the media, financial professionals, individual investors and the public. The facility in Times Square includes a broadcast center, a 55 ft long, 12 ft high wall of rear-projection videos and the exterior tower, which at 10,736 sq. ft., is world's largest electronic display. MarketSite is now the venue for more than 100 financial broadcasts a day, including those of CNNfn, MSNBC and CNBC.
For the new millennium celebration in Times Square, a unique video presentation was created for the MarketSite tower, starting with an animation synchronized with the dropping of the New Year's Eve ball. The celebration was broadcast live around the world and seen by over one billion viewers.
Today, MarketSites' influence on data visualization can be seen throughout the global financial community.
